Deck Rebuild

The deck on the side of this California home was falling apart and had a stump protruding through the center of it, making it largely unusable. I was hired to demolish and rebuild the deck as a summer project.

After demolishing the old deck and chainsawing the stump, I was able to use most of the existing foundation for the old deck by just replacing and reinforcing a few beams. I framed the new deck, railing, and steps, following the old design but with tighter beam spacing to allow for the usage of a composite decking material. Then was painting, decking installation, and finish details.

Doing this project alone was not only a fun construction challenge, but also gave me practice budgeting a project and pricing my labor. The final deck is quite sturdy and the residents are very pleased with it.
